At Oaklands Infant school, we believe that literacy and communication are key life skills. Through the English curriculum, we will help children develop the skills and knowledge that will enable them to communicate effectively and creatively through written and spoken language and equip them with the skills to become life- long learners.

We want children to enjoy and appreciate a rich variety of literature. Literacy is the heart of all children’s learning. It can be a medium to examine others and their own experiences, feelings and ideas, giving these order and meaning. Literacy has a central role to children’s intellectual, emotional and social development and therefore literacy has a part to play in all work across the curriculum helping children’s work to be coherent and progressive.
