Year 1 – Windsor Castle Trip 2025
On a chilly Monday morning the excited Year One classes set off for Windsor Castle. The cheerful staff made us welcome & we looked with awe at the tall buildings. On the walk around to the state rooms we spotted arrow slits in the walls and as we left we looked up to see the murder holes. Each class had a fascinating talk from Sophie about the history of Windsor Castle and why it was built there.
Did you know William the Conqueror built the first wooden motte and bailey structure in 1070? We also had a go at attacking and defending a castle using arrows and a crossbow, a siege tower and a battering ram. Some attackers were undermining the castle and the defenders poured stones through the murder holes. Year one can fill you in with a lot more detail, they listened very well and we were very proud of their behaviour as they moved respectfully around the Castle and St Georges Chapel.
